During May and June 2010, children between the ages of 6-11 will have the opportunity to get together with other musicians and form rock and pop bands. The bands will then be mentored by professional musicians and other young people, culminating in a recording session in a professional music studio.
The young mentors are all currently members of Get Your Act Together – a series of weekly band building workshops that have been running since 2007. The particular individuals have been identified as having musical talent and leadership potential. They will be coached by professional music leaders and musicians and in turn help to mentor the new bands that are formed. The workshops will help to improve individual musical talent within the group, as well as facilitate collaborative creative writing. The end of project experience of recording their tracks in a professional studio will add an additional feeling of achievement as well as providing a CD that individuals can take away.
