North Somerset Council is refurbishing 23 play spaces across the district over a two-year period as part of Playbuilder, a national initiative to provide quality, environmentally friendly play spaces for 8 - 13 year olds.
The Playbuilder programme, North Somerset Play Rangers and Touchwood Design are working together on this project where the main objectives are to:
- engage children and young people in the design and creation of their community Play Sculpture in their local park;
- increase the links between communities, cross-generational activity and young people and their local woodlands;
- empower children and young people by creating opportunities for them to develop their skills and knowledge of creative design and play;
- offer opportunities to a group of children and young people that may not have considered play, culture and design as a career opportunity.
The children learn traditional woodcrafts as a way to engage local communities in the management of local environments.
